In return for their servitude, Lords receive a chosen one—a woman who must willingly vow herself to a member, surrendering her body and autonomy. The system runs on power, fear, and arranged futures: marriages brokered before birth, empires fused through bloodlines. Within these walls, men kill on command and women are listed as rewards. For those who betray the oath, the penalty is death. For those who succeed, the reward is everything—including a human being.

Then he plants himself in a hallway so she literally crashes into him. She sprawls at his feet; he warns her that animals roam these halls and someone might take what's unguarded. Matt appears and bristles. Blakely starts asking questions about the Lords and what being chosen means. Matt refuses to answer. Sarah, Blakely's best friend, finds a ritual flyer—planted by Ryat's friend Gunner specifically for them.
