In the early twentieth century, a man named R.U. Darby caught gold fever. He was living in Colorado when the rush hit, and like thousands of others, he staked a claim and began digging. The work was brutal. Week after week, Darby and his uncle swung pickaxes into stubborn rock, driven by the conviction that they were close to a fortune. Then it happened.
